I just tried Tidy for the first time – on Windows XP
SP2. I used the ‘install’ download. Two issues:
I used it on a file created with vi under cygwin (attached).
Many warnings. Here are the issues:
1. Using the Windows cmd window:
The command line
C:\...>tidy –f warnings.txt –I index.html –o
Did not create, or write to, the file tidy.html. I
only got this for
C:\...>tidy –f warnings.txt –l index.html
2. Once the warnings were fixed, the first line was changed
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01
This change caused IE6.0 to render the page in a larger
typeface! I checked by simply inserting the original first line in the
file, and got back my desired type face. What’s the difference?
