Report from London editor's meeting

Nikos Andronikos
Hi all,

Since the London meeting included a smaller subset of working group members, here’s a report on what went on and what we achieved, for those that weren’t there.

We basically spent the three days reviewing SVG 2 chapter by chapter. Our time was spent roughly 50/50 reviewing and editing. In doing this, we found and fixed problems in every chapter we looked at. But with only three days, we couldn’t cover 100% of the spec, so this indicates there’s definitely lots of areas still to tidy.
We raised approximately 20 new issues, and 78 commits were made. Generally if an issue didn’t require too much editorial work we fixed it there and then, otherwise we raised an issue on github so that it could be worked on later.

The Document Structure and the Coordinates chapters in particular took a lot of time, but both of these can now be considered readiness ‘5’. Each does still have a largish amount of editorial work to do though.

The Text chapter is also looking good, Tav has been working extremely hard on this in the lead up to the meeting and it is now a ‘5’.
We resolved on the final issues during the meeting and Tav will complete the editorial work in the upcoming weeks.
In particular, Cameron’s algorithm needs to be updated to include all the recent changes to the chapter.
Tav has requested as many reviews of this chapter as possible as it’s extremely long and complicated (not trying to scare you off here!).

The spec is getting closer and closer to CR, but there’s still a good number of issues to close - mostly these are editorial, but some will require resolution.
Many of the chapters that have been marked ‘5’ in the past now have new issues raised against them. So I ask, could all chapter owners spend some time working on the issues within their chapters.
I plan to compile a list of the issues to be addressed in each chapter and I’ll mail that out tomorrow.

It was a very productive meeting, and it certainly feels like SVG 2 is much closer to CR, but there’s still work to be done.
Amelia, Tav, and myself will be spending a lot of time in the next few weeks working through the editorial changes, it would be great to have as much help as possible.
Special thanks to Léonie, Charles, and Chris for coming along with fresh eyes. Their contributions were extremely helpful.

Nikos.
