The last time someone from W3C has responded to something reported on this address was in 2009.

The last time the validator code has been touched was apparently in 2006.

People report the same problems with the validator over and over again, to the sound of crickets chirping. A few sightings of the very problem that Kingsley just mentioned:

Re: RDB2RDF Implementation Report

Ivan Herman-2
Ok. I may have been to quick in answering (sorry), so I tried to track some issues down. But the end result is not much more rejoicing.

As you can easily imagine, the issue is manpower. We, in the W3C team, simply have no manpower available to actively maintain the RDF validator. The validator has been updated since 2006, actually (it now uses the latest version of Jena as a response to some security issue); but nobody really maintains the code itself. Instead, the validator code has been put onto github:

https://github.com/w3c/rdfvalidator-ng

meaning that anybody can download and use the validator locally and, *of course*, we would love and would incorporate patches to be deployed at the W3C site. But, I am afraid, that is where we are today...

Cheers

Ivan

Ok, good.

That's great, actually.

This should really be mentioned here:
http://www.w3.org/RDF/Validator/documentation

That page points people in wrong directions and makes the whole project look a lot worse than it actually is.

Sticking the documentation page into the GitHub repository would be a good step towards that.

> and, *of course*, we would love and would incorporate patches to be deployed at the W3C site.

I fear that the specific issue mentioned by Kingsley is an issue with W3C's networking, and not a bug in the code. See my report here:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-rdf-validator/2012Apr/0002.html

Best,
Richard
